Mile Sur Mera Tumhara – Song that is considered among the most patriotic song which emphasize the common spirit of unity in diversity. Everybody must have heard it somewhere, as earlier on Doordarshan Channel it was telecastes on a regular basis and which had involved every superstar, sportstar, ministers, singers and all famous personalities of India.
This time a new version of Mile Sur mera Tumhara named Phir Mile Sur was launched today on the eve of Republic Day. Amitabh Bachchan launched this song today and was proud that he was the only one who was common in both the songs.
The older version of Mile Sur Mera Tumhara involved many personalities like Amitabh bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Mithun Chakraborty, Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Kamal Haasan, Sharmila Tagore, Tanuja and Waheeda Rehman and so on. This newer version includes stars like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Shankar Mahadevan, Juhi Chawla, Shaan, Shahid kapoor and many more.
But the legacy left by old one is incomparable with new one. New one doesn’t stand anywhere near the old humble and sweet Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.
Phir Mile sur premiers tomorrow on eve of Republic Day of India. You can watch the promo of this video song here on youtube. Lets see whether the newer version of 2009 surpasses the legacy of 1988 version.
OMG…It was sore disappointment, an assault to my memories, right from the start. Please don’t kill a perfect song. Scrap this new video. It’s a “colossal” blunder.

Mile sur mera tumhara is a Master Piece! Phir mile sur is no way close to original version…..though certain moments in phir mile sur deserves its credit but on whole it was a disappointment!

yeah! i also think same.

Highly disgusting too see good artists like AB and ARR used for a pure commercial venture unlike the noble deed of DD, which aired it first. Please do not insult the Indians by commercialising a immortal song like Mile Sur. Please take it off the air immedialtely. We can’t even watch it second time.

Highly Disappointed as the song in Sindhi Language is missing as in the original Mile sur mera tumhara. How can they forget the contributions made by sindhi’s to this country and to the people of country. Now for sindhis its “NA MILE SUR MERA TUMHARA”. My beloved Sindhis please add comments to this and make it reach to the ultimate creators of Phir Mile Sur Mera Tumhara.
Comment by Deepak Bhatia — January 25, 2010 @ 11:59 pm
Not like the older one…The older one was much better (No Comparison)… I missed Sachin Tendulkar in this video… Rest of the time it was just family or self promotion… And if the song is “Mile Sur mera tumhara” then why are all the stars not sharing the screen (like Amitabh, Mithun and jeetendra in earlier video).. That could have made the video some what acceptable… In all a bad effort… If it was not the same song it could have been worse..
Comment by Shashi — January 26, 2010 @ 1:00 am
hated it.It is far too glamorous to suit my patriotic sensibilities.perhaps lesser glorification of Bollywood would make it bearable.what was the point of Deepika Padukone showing off her legs?while the original version focuses on simple beauty of India and the Indians, the new version dazzles us with designer wear.only the part with the mute children was touching.the rest was just offensive.Â
Comment by Shreya Sen — January 26, 2010 @ 2:27 am
OMG.. It is a great dishonour for me and my community.. The SINDHI part is removed… We call ourself INDIANS and this the treatment we get… Its a shame.. the song is just a rubbish thing to show filmstars.. Salman with school kids withot his T-shirt..Deepika Padukone dresss… That is not Indian culture… The original song was something to admire..This one should be banned..
Comment by Yogesh Achhra — January 26, 2010 @ 3:12 am
Some how it does not touch the heart . The older version was more Indian and had a certain aroma about it. The new version seems artificial The makers should have created a different song with a different tune .
I doubt if this new version will create the same vibes that the old one did.
After all, OLD IS GOLD!
Comment by Ruby — January 26, 2010 @ 3:55 am
the old video was much more good than the new one
I somewhat dont like the new one

The song mile sur with legends & young generation gives inspiration to us with memories of past and future generations. These people can move the nation in one unity and tells the coming generations, how we should be patriatic.
Comment by hyndavi — January 26, 2010 @ 6:52 am
Phir mile sure is realy disgusting, it donot represent true india, in full song you will anly film star, very less time is give to other ( how is real star of india I.e. Sport classic music), film stars are not only india..

The new avatar of our most loved song is a disaster. Never expected that the new version to be this horrible. it is only glamour that is playing a major role in this version. This patriotic song should be used to bring the nation together wherein it shows only a bunch of movie stars showing their acting skills.
Comment by sujakannan, Chennai — January 26, 2010 @ 11:13 am
I think this will be the worst song of this century. What a way to degrade the earlier version. The real stars who have sacrificied their lives for our nation should have been shown instead of handful of so called stars in their skimpy dress and masculine body trying to demolish the image of our Mother land. Pls dont promote this song anymore for this is a shame to us. There is absolutely no unity in the song.
Comment by kannan, Chennai — January 26, 2010 @ 11:26 am
The motive behind the new version was to remove sindhi and cause distress among us. what else could be a reason for removing a part which was originally there……..But please don’t mind….feel proud that our beautiful language was saved from this dirt
Comment by instant K — January 26, 2010 @ 8:25 pm
Hopeless is the word !!I mean what did they try to capture India Shining or Bollywood calling ? There are so many great’s of our times who should be there in the version. My Take :1. Like someone said sounds like a cacophony.2. No melody, doesn’t build up the tempo3. Why so much of ignorance towards Sports & Business. No E. Sreedharan ,No O.P Bhatt, No Rahul Dravid or so many more worthy Indian’s.
What more to expect when production house is ZOOM TV… Yeah probably the last nail in the coffin would have been Rakhi Savant !!!

Phir mile sur is a self-marketing tool of the stars featured.India and Indians are not mere bollywood personalities and icons but more than tat.My fellowmen from nagaland , mizoram , west india , personalities like APJ,Sachin,Chawla,Naren karthikeyan , The men at border , our heritage , our national integration and much more is eaten up.ITS A DISASTER and shud be removed or banned.
This can be featured in media schools for video reference “how a remake/national intergration video shouldnt be”
Comment by Udaya — January 27, 2010 @ 3:29 am
The older version was done by DD whose sole purpose was ‘National integration’ without any commercial element in it while this new version was done by ZOOM which is completely dedicated to Bollywood, in association with Vodafone and times group. I think was done for just publicity with National Integration as the background. Even though it aired so many times yesterday so many times, I could not watch it fully as it is too long and doesn’t have the charm of older one. But few elements like Shivamani’s drumming on water, ARR’s keyboard was good to hear

Such a disappointment – the new version. It lacks the soul of not just India but of its immortal ancestors. I hope they take it off air. Its suffocating to even think I may watch it a second time.
Comment by Vivek — January 28, 2010 @ 1:20 am
The new version of MILE SUR MERA TUMHAARA is to showcase the Hindi film industry more than national integration…..!!
Comment by Pooja — January 28, 2010 @ 1:38 am
i hated the new version of phir….. more than any thing in my life.it feel insulting even comparing it with the old MSMT. For me this new song is nothing more than a cold soul and cheap commercial venture. MSMT was the astonishing anthem for me and various other people like me who went to their childhood memories after seeing it any time anywhere. and for whom those are grown up with it… by watching it again and again. every time i see the old version i feel a new essence of indiawhich new versions lacks. at the age of 8 my favourite section was to have a glimse of my favourite three actor(amitabh, mithun, jitendra)but this was tottal juveineil act . i hope other people do have the same feeling but as i grown up, everytime i saw it, i fetched a knew package of learning , a new vibes which always gave me a relaxation and every thing feels so great.
now in 21 centaury i think we are commercialised, corrupted and molesed to the peak, that even our soul anthem got corrupted. This new song shows us the fine example of our development through last 2 decade that that we are now become machine we have no sentiments.are we still acting juveneil? like i used to do in my childhood.this PMSMT song is totally exhibiting our todays value that we still want to know what shahrukh is doing and to whome kareena is dating …what the crap.
MILEY SUR MERA TUMAHRA…even this 4 words didnt able to bring these three so called egoistic khans superstar together. than how can we assume that these people bring our nation pride . i was ashamed watching these so called bollywood actor took 10 minutes of precious time and leave nothing to the popular sportpersons, industrialists, scientist and painters. are we only known by bollywood people? is nothing far above this idiotic bollywood?
sory to say but the director had even made a biggest mistake than ram gopal verma. i know that the song is made with the right sentimentiments but it got lost in the crowd of these filthy actors. does deepika priyanka , abhishek, shahid are far bigger than the asha bhosle, lata mangeskar, sania irza, leander pace, bhaputi, dravid and most probably who can forget sachin tendulkar …. i dont think so that i would be an indian if i forget the national hero to bring in any thing which exhibits national pride.
it feels that our bollywood hero become huge and our nation become small
SORry to say but
I CAnt RELATE MY SUR
with this new MILEY SUR MERA TUMAHRA…………

The best part about bad movies and videos is that they make good reviews! Your post is not only informative but also hilarious. However, i take PMS as a new advertising model. Where the Bollywood celebs advertise in between a few seconds of the PMS video. PMS is awesome!

It is a Slow song, some parts are ok and good and the rest is just unmusical and modernised, i dont get that feel of patriotism, this one is fine but only fine with some middle music being good (ustad-and aman, ayyan, drummist ). old one is a classical masterpiece of Indian music and integrity, i go in to divine aura when i listen to the old song…..
Comment by Vikas Saraswat — January 31, 2010 @ 10:17 am
Yeap the new PMSMT didn’t generate the vibes the old one generates, the song starts of slow, was waiting when it will picks up the tempo, it sounded like many surs were mixed and presented which didn’t gel well. One more point is, more then the stars, video shd have shown India, Salman shot with the mute kids did impress me, deepika padkone’s didn’t dress up for the occassion, she was not serious about the song, which even now when we hum, lata ji singing comes alive in front of our eyes, and the mix and match of various Indian language was gr8. Zoom u lost on this, u can’t take credits for this vdo, over to DD to come with an master piece.

the new version is an extreme disappointment, it lacks the depth and indian-ness to it. It seems that the deal was done to promote the film/ glamour and related industry. The other heros have been conveniently left out, what about sports / police/ army.. real life heros who have done the country proud

O come on people. Why do u even compare the new version with the old one. This song, wen released at that time, aimed at presenting the culture of India at that time. Times have changed now. We have new singers, new sports persons, new actors, new states to say the least. The new version depicts the same.
So kindly stop criticizing it and appreciate its beauty.
And Mr.Piyush.. you share a same name as i do.. but you make me feel ashamed of it now. How insensitive can you get? Its obvious that Whole of India cannot be poured into one song. You can write all shit about government and people but people like you cannot appreciate some one’s effort.
Any person having a faint knowledge of music will like the new version definitely. Rather than criticizing the Government, do something good in life.
New version Rocks just like the old one.
Comment by PIYUSH MEHRA — February 11, 2010 @ 8:14 pm
Where is our malayalam lines in the new song?..The old one had two lines in malayalam.. now where is it..
Ente swaravum ningalude swaravumÂ
Othuchernnal nammude swaramaay..
If you had shown the geography of that land..also.. for example while playing tamil.. you could have used places like Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram, etc. instead of a big rock..
Kerala was there in the old song with a black man on an elephant.. Now totally avoided.. Fine.. All these are part of freedom na..
Mainly due to this.. I dont like the song.. eventhough my favourite A.R. Rahman and Amithabh Bachchan are there.
