Love Love love and love is the theme of the story. The movie is basically a love story with a typical ending. The maximum part of movie revolves around the pair trying to propose each other.
Cast: Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, Uma Pathmanaban, K.S. Ravikumar, Prakash Raj
Director: Gautham Menon
Asking about the Genre of the movie, Its not a drama, action or any thriller its Romance.
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa is a love story. Karthik (Silambarasan) and Jessie (Trisha) meet each other…..and it’s love at first sight for Karthik.
Not having seen a beauty such as Jessie in years passed by, Karthik is love struck, dumbstruck, and spellbound…all at once. Jessie is the girl next door, in the typical sense. Secretive glance make way to obvious glance and the two get acquainted. What begins with an unexpected friendship breaks boundaries to take shape as Love.
Unable to hold his emotions, Karthik doesn’t allow his feelings to rest for too long when he proposes to Jessie and that leaves her in a perplexed state.
Silence from both ends…….Followed by regretful thoughts…..And decisions to be made………..
As love choose its own way, familiarity make ways for a healthy yet simple relationship between Karthik and Jessie. Just when life seems perfect surrounded by the indescribable feeling of romance, Jessie brings out her uncertainly over the relationship leaving Karthik in a perplexed state this time around
Simply put – Love is beautiful but it can be painful too…..
The director has put only one action scene in the entire movie. Screenplay is quite slow and dialogue delivery are worth noticing ( of course dialogues as well.
The ending of this movie is very odd leaving audience perplexed at the end but nevertheless movie is watchable and a good time pass.
VTV is an typical Gautham Menon moview targeted on A center audience. If you are in love and want to see whats happening in your life the right place to land is VTV. The Music by Rahman is mindblowing!! what a genious Back Ground Music. Awesome Cinematography by Manoj!! ScreenPlay especially in the second half is slow!! Love Sequence between Karthik and jessie are too good to watch. Thrisha plays an Girl Next door sort of a role. If you are in to the theater without much of a expectation, VTV is an treat to watch!!

sorry to say that VTV doesnt have the midas touch of Gautham menon. except for the frames and narration. Silambarasan the lead hero trying to take what surya left in Varanam ayiram. The mannerisms and the expressions of surya and simbhu is almost identical in VA and VTV. Simbu is a miscast in this love story. at times the movie is dragging and too much twists and turns in the relations of the lead pair leaves the audience bored. The outstanding thing in this movie is the beautiful frames created by cameraman Manoj and Gautham. VTV is an extension of Varanam aayiram but not comparable.

Comment by IXVU — February 26, 2010 @ 11:15 am
ar rahman is the only positive side in the movie. and cameraman manoj too. gautam should take a break. damn simbu is imitating surya in this movie. trisha is old chappathi now. money waste. time waste.

Things that are “good” in VTV: ARR, ARR, ARR….hmm…Manoj as well….and somewhere the movie concept/script/screenplay. Things that are “not so good” in VTV: Chemistry between Hero & Heroine though every trial seems to be made…just sucks…wasn’t just there at all making the tamil version dull, thunderingly boring climax – the twist was a U turn Mr. Dir and people are not yet ready for your genre of thoughts maybe.
What would have made it better: 2 New or fresher faces or atleast an A grade hero would have brought life to this movie and the screenplay. My choice of cast would have been Sidharth/Genelia or atleast Sidharth/Trisha combi (not that I am a fan of Sid…just that freshness would have helped). Finally: If you go with very very low expectations, then you would like the “good” parts…otherwise…bad luck! you will get to see only the “not so good”.

Went with lots of Hopes.Movie was lengthy .Finally ended up with a big disappointment
Expected a lot more from Gautam wherein he would take up the movie fast at one point of time.but infact he dragged the story and really tested the patience of the audience.things which could be expressed in a timeline of 2 Min was elaborated for 5 Min.Ending of the movie was full of confusion and also lot of Confusion during movie finishing.Audience could not conclude them when would right ending comes to movie.
but overall SIMBHU s Performance is SUPERB,he is really Cute,No punchlines – cool loveteraphy,Simbhu has done his best of all and looks awesome.trisha also have done her best and looks cute.Cinematography is wonderful. But the Negative point is Gautams story line is Week.
i know i had toomuch here but i had written what i felt. As in the end simbhu acheived nothing with his long sincere love.Even audience got no satisfaction like him with his Love Poetry.

Yhe movie was ok. Just like any other kollywood romantic movie. He would have casted Surya instead of Simbu. The songs are not to the mark. except 2-3. The first half had some good work. The second half was dragging like hell. Gothum should stop making Romantic movies and move to take movies like Vettayadu Vilayadu & Vaaranam . Too much of romance in his life has made his movies boring . Need to switch his position for his future.

BRijesh u should not compare with varanam ayeram…..i love this movie..its outstanding…u r not worth to critic VTV……if u know direction… u wont speak like this….its a perfect classic direction…. The film is a must watch for those who cares for cinema of sense and substance. It stresses the fact that Tamil cinema has to break the mould if it aims to grab eyeballs. Gautham Menon has crafted a movie that will stay in our hearts for a long, long time.

Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya is infact a slow romantic type of genre movie from very special director Gautum. Hats off to Gautam for directing this brilliant movie.
It is a film of reality and it talks about another dimension of Love. It is infact a simple love story that goes well with the present day youngsters. The films different unexpected twist in the climax makes it heart breaking.
About the actors in the film, the director has brilliantly casted each and every one of them specially the lead roles, Silambarasan and Trisha. The chemistry between the two is so real and integrated together superbly by Gautom.
Silambarasan has proved that he is a great performer. In fact he has acted with a good intellectual approach. After ‘Manmathan’, another good performance by Simbu.
Thrisha looks so beautiful in the film as Kerala Princess. She has to get most of the appreciation while acting in the lead role opposite to Simbu. Her emotional quotients have been well placed in the film.
A R Rahman paired up with Gautom has provided a Fish out of Box state of Music. His smooth, mesmerized songs like Hosanna , Anbil Avan, Manippaya has stolen the hearts of many.
The camera work and the editing has also needs a good applause. All the technicians involved in the film especially camera work, editing, background score, the foreign locations, scenic beauty of Kerala backwaters must be appreciated a lot for the film.
All together Vinnai Thandi Varuvaaya is a love story with a difference. Dont expect much from VTV and I am sure that you will get exceeded with your exceptations.
Thanks Goutham for a great movie.

If you are in love, or u recently had a failed love,,, you could probably connect with this movie and love it for some reason. For others… It doesn’t make any sense. Its slow… and the twists are kinda creepy. I heard the song ‘Hosana’ many times before watching the movie. It is such a fresh song,, totally new sounds and tunes…  But when I watched the picturization, I was totally disappointed.. The Song is sooo fresh,,, but dance steps are sooo old that it reminded me of my College Day dance that we performed almost 9 years ago. Director could have put some more effort to make the video match the song’s originality.  Also, many times,,, I actually doubted about what the director was trying to convey during the first half – that simbu really loves trisha or he is just luring her to have sex? (Yea.. second have clears my doubts though). Hmm..  in short.. I personally didn’t like the movie.. May be I am totally not the genre that Mr. Menon was targeting at. I had to pay my hard earned 120 bucks to learn that.

I dont watch Tamil movies often but VRV has made me more positive about the future of the tamil film industry. You need guts to move out of the formulaic themes being churned out by the tamil, malayalam, telugu & kannada film worlds. VRV was and is a refreshing change. Direction was excellent and so was the music. Agreed that people with romantic inclinations would be more impressed with the movie, but who hasn’t fallen in love? None, that I know of. Saw no need for the only action sequence in the movie, but I guess the director gave in to the aspirations of the Tamil movie buffs. The climax was done brilliantly, although the reasons for Jessie’s decision to leave Karthik could have been explained in a more positive light. The proceedings gave a slilght negative shade to Jessie’s character in my opinion. But since you never have things black and white in this world, it was amazing (and satisfying) to see a director putting grey shades in a female character. Simbu, well I had seen only clips of his earlier movies, mostly dhishum dhishum (not very impressive). Was amazed by his measured performance, truly the makings of a great actor. Well done Gautham and team.

Great movie. I think those that don’t like this movie (was a bit slow) need to have your hearts checked out. Don’t you have any love?
I do agree with someone who pointed out that the reasons Jessie turns down Karthik could have been explained better and I thought it was not very convincing.
One’s past is your parents, one’s future is when you find true love, and decisions are made in the present…I think Jessie did not make the right decision.
How can you live a life when you are in love withe someone? That too…first love!
I wish the Climax could have been a happy ending. I heard the Telugu version had the happy ending.
Anyways, great “controlled” performances from all actors…especially Trisha was spellbinding….Simbu was the excellent.
Thanks.
