Women’s reservation bill passed by Rajya Sabha yesterday

The historic Women’s reservation bill ensuring 33% reservation have been passed by Rajya Sabha yesterday. This one third reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies finally passed this tuesday after lots of drama.

Despite the threat of withdrawal of support from Samajwadi party and Rashtriya Janta Dal, this bill was passed by more than 2/3rd of the majority.



In total 186 votes were in favour, one in against giving a clear passage for the implementation of this Women’s reservation bill.

 

Leader of opposition party Arun Jaitley and Prime Minister Sri Manmohan Singh passed told that this is a historic and momentous day for them.

Karat said that – ” The women’s reservation bill will ensure that many women of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Other Backward Classes, poor women and Muslim women would benefit from this historic achievement.

Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh told that – “we have also to recognise that our women have faced enormous difficulties in our country. Our women faced discrimination at home, there is domestic violence, they face discrimination in equal access to education, healthcare, there are many such things. All these things have to end if India were to realise its full potential.”
