President Lech Kaczynski and First Lady Madame Kaczynska of Poland died today in a plane crash. There plane was approaching to Smolensk airport in western Russia.
Almost 98 persons are dead in this Russian jet crash. Other dignitaries that died in this crash are the army chief of staff, the navy chief commander, and heads of the air and land forces, national bank president, deputy foreign minister, army chaplain, head of the National Security Office, deputy parliament speaker, Olympic Committee head, civil rights commissioner and minimum two presidential aides and three lawmakers as per statement by Polish Foreign Ministry.
Tupolev Tu-154 was the name of plane in which they were all travelling and as per statement a total of 132 people were aboard the plane.
Vladimir Putin president of Russia has been made in charge of commission investigating this plane crash. The plane crash took about 0700 GMT and the pilot made about three to four attempt to land the plane safely before it crashed.
The Tupolev crash occurred about 1.5 km from Smolensk airport due to thick foggy conditions as told by the officials.
